![]() To help with the games period setting and oftentimes obscure terminology, there is a button prompt within the games dialogue and cutscenes to open a glossary of definitions and explanations on the various factions and their political motivations. ![]() This is the first time that western audiences have seen a game from this franchise use a historically accurate event to house their fictional storyline and I must admit that they have done a good job of blending the two together. The story has a habit of presenting you with what at the time feels like an obvious plot hole just to make sense of it much later – this series is not known for its continuity errors or senseless narrative. Within the game’s 13 chapters, you will begin to question allies and bear witness to the inner turmoil of a man conflicted with grief, revenge, and his quest for the truth. Throughout Ishin! you will notice iconic characters from the series under a new moniker based loosely on historical figures.Īs you progress through the game, Ryoma will pursue his mentor’s killer from within the Shinsengumi (an elite group of swordsmen that was organized by commoners and low rank samurai for the Shogunate) in a thrilling plot full of twists and turns that leave you wanting more. ![]() You play as Sakamoto Ryoma, a fundamental carbon copy of the Yakuza series’ main antagonist Kazuma Kiryu as he uncovers the conspiracies and injustices that ended the Samurai era and revolutionised the future of Japan. Ishin! is set in the mid-to-late 1800’s during the chaotic Bakumatsu phase of the Edo period where an oppressive class system and threat of colonisation filled the minds of a worrisome country on the brink of collapse. Like A Dragon: Ishin! is available now on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.Like A Dragon: Ishin! is a remake of Ryu Ga Gotoku: Ishin! A spin off title from the Yakuza series originally released only in Japan. While these challenges can be completed with enough repetition and focus, the often unforgiving and callously difficult nature of them as post-game challenges are more than enough to label the Ultimate Champion achievement/trophy as an extremely hard one to unlock. Ishin's Ultimate Challenges are split into categories of combat, skill, and speed, and the "Ultimate Champion" achievement/trophy demands that players complete every single one of them. These challenges are purposefully designed to push the boundaries of difficulty to a sometimes comical degree, and are often enough to make even the most seasoned franchise veteran fall victim to serious frustration. Many are currently using an exploit to simply complete the final boss battle of the game on Legend to unlock this achievement/trophy, although the high likelihood that this will be patched soon maintains the difficult nature of Legend of an Era.Īnother notoriously difficult aspect of the offered Like a Dragon gameplay experience is present within Ishin, namely within the Ultimate Challenges that are made available to the player following completion of the title's main story. With enemies being much more powerful and competent fighters in this mode, the achievement/trophy for completing a Legend playthrough is predictably one of the most difficult tasks within Like a Dragon: Ishin. ![]() This does not mean that a Legend playthrough is any easier of a feat in Ishin, with a first-time Legend playthrough lacking the New Game+ benefits that a second playthrough would otherwise foster. Unlike other Yakuza titles, however, Legend is available to play from the outset within Ishin, whereas most other IP titles only have Legend available as a difficulty for second playthroughs. ![]() Legend is the hardest difficulty that Ishin players can endure, as is the case with the large majority of franchise titles. Aptly named "Legend of an Era," this particular accolade is labeled as a gold trophy on PlayStation platforms and is worth a respectable 65 gamerscore on Xbox consoles. Like many other installments to the Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon: Ishin possesses its own difficulty-related achievement/trophy for completing the game on Legend difficulty. ![]()
